Instructor of Mathematics (Developmental)

Minimum
Qualifications:
A Master’s Degree in Mathematics or related field, with an emphasis on teaching
developmental mathematics courses is required. Candidates should
demonstrate leadership and a teaching philosophy attuned to current trends in
developmental mathematics education and reform. Knowledge of and
experience with activity-based learning, appropriate use of graphing
calculators and other technology, collaborative exercises, use of manipulatives, writing in mathematics, and ability to
foster development of problem solving and critical thinking skills should be
evident. Familiarity with current methods of improving success of adult
students in developmental math (such as self-paced, modular instruction; online
software support; and walk-in math labs) is highly recommended. College
level teaching experience in developmental mathematics is strongly
recommended. A commitment to the use of new technologies and pedagogy,
and knowledge of and dedication to the mission of the community college is essential.
In addition, the following core skills are required: demonstrated
involvement in support of diversity, demonstrated ability to respond to and
work with multiple constituencies, and demonstrated computer literacy,
including instructional applications.

experience has prepared them for the responsibilities of this position.
Responsibilities:
Teaching developmental mathematics courses; providing leadership to and working
with other faculty and staff on assessing outcomes of developmental courses and
on developing new methods for improving student success; recruiting and
advising students; participating in the activities of the mathematics
department including revising and evaluating curricula; serving on
departmental, division, and college-wide committees; and performing other
duties related to a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the community
college system.
Minimum Salary:
$43,657 approximate annual, subject to collective bargaining increases;
Excellent insurance benefits and educational benefits
for employees and dependents. Optional contracts may be available for
teaching summer session courses and regular semester overloads, offering the
potential for additional compensation.
