Currently, the University is inviting applications for the position: Director, Developmental Programs.
The Director’s position for Developmental Programs is available starting July 1, 2007 or sooner. Developmental Programs is a large interdisciplinary department encompassing developmental courses and academic support labs for the main campus of the University of Akron; it is part of The University of Akron's Summit College, which is located on the main campus and offers 25 Associate and 10 Baccalaureate degrees. The Director of Developmental Programs reports to the Dean of Summit College.
The successful candidate for this position will provide collegial leadership and vision for the department as well as establishing and directing a faculty resource center for Summit College. Major responsibilities include hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising Developmental Programs faculty and staff; designing policies and conducting faculty development seminars to enhance teaching and promote student success and retention; preparing and administering the department’s budget; and teaching one Developmental Programs course per semester. Qualifications for this position include a Master’s degree (required) in Education, Mathematics, English, or related field (Ph.D. preferred), a minimum three years administrative experience in a college or university (department of developmental education preferred), a minimum three years teaching experience at the college level, preferably in developmental education, and proven organizational, communication, and faculty development skills. This is a 12-month, full-time position. Salary is open and negotiable.
